ACROSS BRITISH COLUMBIA TOUR ROUTE
Options
of 14 days or 5 days and if you are up to the entire route 19 days are
available. We are riding from Cranbrook all the way across BC on backcountry
roads and jeep trails. Starting with the Canadian Rockies and heading
west crossing five wilderness mountain ranges, the Purcell, Monashee,
Cascade, Cariboo- Chilcolton area and BC Coastal Mountain ranges.
As
large and diverse as the province of British Columbia is, so is the variety
of dualsport motorcycle riding and touring possibilities. From the rugged
splendor of the Rocky Mountains to the semiarid regions of the provinces
Fraser Canyon and the interior to the lush rainforests of the west coast
and Vancouver Island.
Our
fourteen day and 19 day options start in Cranbrook. We will begin our
Adventure with the Canadian Rockies and Purcell Mountain Ranges experiencing
the huge vastness of the British Columbia backcountry continuing onto
the Monashee and Cascade Mountains.
We
continue northwest for several days making our way on backcountry routes
to the Chilcoltin and Coastal Mountain Ranges followed by the Cariboo
and Fraser Valley plateau.
A
highlight of the next few days is a visit to a beautiful remote mountain
resort at Chaunigan Lake Lodge to spend a day exploring the area or just
relaxing and soaking up the view. Our trip from Chaunigan Lake takes us
farther north along the Coastal Mountains to Nimpo Lake Resort. We then
ride through Tweedsmuir Park to Hagensbourg in the Bella Coola Valley.
A few days are spent in Bella Coola exploring the magnificent coastal
mountain fjords.
Next
an awesome ferry trip taking "The Discovery Coast Passage" ferry
route from Bella Coola to Port Hardy on Vancouver Island (this is a 12
hour scenic ferry ride through the Inside Passage and a memorable part
of the adventure with awesome views of the Pacific Coastline and whale
watching opportunities).
The
tour will take us down Vancouver Island visiting Telegraph Cove, Strathcona
Park and taking backroads to Gold River and Comox. From Comox we will
leave Vancouver Island and head back to the mainland to explore the scenic
sights of the famous winding curves of the Sunshine Coast Highway visiting
Sechelt and the famous Gibsons Landing. Our 14 day tour will end in Vancouver.
Our five day tour option is available from Vancover to Cranbrook. Call
for details. Tour riding distance consists of 80% backcountry dirt roads,
20% paved roads and some technical mountain passes. Riders must be experienced
and capable of long rides in a variety of conditions (we ride rain or
shine). To add to the adventure there will be some exploring of remote
valleys and trails along the way. This is going to be an awesome ride.

These
quotes inspire us as we prepare your ride:
"A motorcycle adventure is different from an ordinary vacation
because it is a true adventure..... "Adventures,
like vacations, aren't every-weekend activities. You plan for them, save
for them, then live them - and remember them for the rest of your life."
- Dirt Bike Magazine "10 Wild Rides", December 1995. (Backroads
Adventures was selected one of the top 10 motorcycle adventures as reported
in a special feature article by the Adventure Bike staff
journalists reporting
on the best motorcycle adventures in the world).
"Forget
saving for retirement - these rides are never to be forgotten adventures.
Do them before it's too late!! - Kiwi Motorcycle Rider "Adventure
Riding in British Columbia", April 1999 article by John Dalgliesh.
On July 2,
1999 we embarked on our first "Across BC Tour". It was truly
an epic adventure and has now become one of our favorite rides. After
15 years experience organizing tours throughout British Columbia I can
tell you this is the one tour you should make a goal to do at least once
in your lifetime. This challenging ride is organized with options of five,
fourteen and twenty day tours. John Dalgliesh summed it up when he wrote,
"Forget saving for retirement - these rides are never to be forgotten
adventures. Do them before it's too late!"
